RANDOM/TIMES

Seven rare vintage watches, selected with Gai Gohari.
At 228 Mott Street through November 8.

Gai Gohari deals in vintage watches out of Classic 55 on Fifth Avenue. We spent an afternoon going through his inventory and pulled seven pieces for the shop — nothing matched, nothing themed, no coherent decade or house.

An Asprey Tank-style dress watch in 9ct gold, made in the UK in the 1940s. A Universal Genève Unisonic from the 1970s with an electronic tuning-fork movement — it hums rather than ticks, and the seconds hand sweeps instead of stepping. A Mido Multifort with a copper dial that has aged into something no factory could have specified. A sterling silver Golana, Swiss, sculptural. Two Seikos, one from the ’70s and one from the ’80s. And a pink fiberglass TAG Heuer Formula 1.

Every watch on display is set to a random hour. None of them are correct.
